Among the Hidden

This was a book that Seri read as a part of a book-a-week coop class that she took. It looked interesting so I picked it up. It was beyond interesting! Completely fascinating and engrossing! Set in the not-too-distant future, the country has experienced a famine and the government has stepped in to ensure that everyone has enough food. They do this by instituting a policy where it is illegal to have any more than two children. Punishment for having a third is death of the child, parents, and anyone with knowledge of the third childs existence.
Luke is a third child who has spent his life in hiding. He was able to play in the backyard until the government confiscated his parents property and built housing for the Barrons. Now he is forced to stay in the house out of sight of all windows. Throug chance he meets another third child and his life begins to change.
This author is truly amazing and will have you hooked! There is so much to think about while reading and pondering these books. They go beyond reading for enjoyment........Serenitie and I had so many great discussions that relate to our lives in todays society. Written for the teenage set, I would encourage anyone to read these books!!! In our house three generations anxiously read the books. (Do you know how hard it is when you have three people all wanting to read the same book at the same time?)
There are five books in the "Shadow children" series, each as good as the last. When my husband asked if I was on the last one I replied that I was and felt somewhat sad that the story had ended.
